PIW was established in September 1980 by 13 women who had achieved middle management status in their insurance careers and their personal lives. The organization has grown and flourished not only in the size of its membership but in the activities in which it is involved.
PIW extends the value of the networking concept into the local insurance community by inviting guests to attend special meetings and seminars. These open meetings are an opportunity for all insurance professionals to hear speakers on a broad range of topics and to participate in a free exchange of ideas with their peers. They also increase the visibility of PIW members in the insurance industry. Annual traditions that have been established through these meetings include Breakfast with the Risk Managers, Breakfast with Industry Leaders and the summer golf outing. Closed meetings offer the members an opportunity to talk with each other about topics of concern to the gropu and develop closer relationships.
PIW is an independent Twin Cities based organization and is not affiliated with any state or national organization. Monthly meetings are held year-round and annual dues are collected each fall. PIW has an executive board that oversees the organization according to its constitution and bylaws. There are numerous committees that keep the organization viable including the Program, Finance and Membership committees, to name a few. Members are encouraged to serve on a committee.
